About the exhibition
TOURING WITH ART ON THE MOVE 2025-27
Animation and historical archive tell stories of the Strelley Mob and the significance of the 1946 Pilbara Strike
In 1946, Aboriginal pastoral workers from across the north-west of Australia went on strike. They never went back to work on stations, instead running their own mining camps and gathering pearl shell to support themselves. This exhibition looks back at this history, and the longer history of life in the bush, through drawings, paintings and animations made by the strikers, their descendants and supporters.
