About the exhibition

Developed by Burnie Regional Gallery and toured by Contemporary Art Tasmania, The Partnershipping Project will feature twenty regional visual artists, with local artists joining in or dropping out of the exhibition at each subsequent tour venue. The artists’ work will be installed in eight small boats and the entire exhibition will travel up the east coast of Australia and back to Tasmania in a shipping container.

Cuarted by Emeritus Professor Pat Hoffie AM and Rosemary Miller the exhibition is centred around the question “as on-line experiences take up more time in our lives, do our relationships to place still matter?” The artists come from a broad range of cultural backgrounds and experiences and their works challenge stereotypes about what living in the regions of Australia might mean. They are inspired by their global experiences to make changes in their local communities, and offer new insights.

Each artist is producing exciting new work in response to their 'boat' drawing from their own lives; their own places; their ideas, hopes, dreams, fears and passions. The exhibition tour itinerary has four venues already in place with two artists from each of these four regional galleries taking part in the completed exhibition. The final lineup of eight artists drawn from the twenty taking part will not be known until after the fourth venue exhibition in May 2020.

An opportunity has opened up for a venue to take the complete exhibition of artworks in eight small boats from June to October 2020.
