About the exhibition

A suite of 7 interconnecting sculptural installations that can be shown all together or in smaller combinations. They form an optical, kinetic and immersive environment. Whimsical and fun, yet intriguing and contemplative, the room is filled with organic, hand-crafted vessels, burrows and vortices that draw visitors into a world of movement, light and wonder.

At its heart is a simple, timely and powerful idea: that microbes, insects, animals, plants and humans, are all bound together in webs of interconnection and collaboration, and that we are only now beginning to recall and reframe that common bond, and our responsibility and connection to the land, our ancestral roots and our culture.

“I recommend this project on the strength of its artistic quality, but above all on the exceptional quality of the audience and community engagement it generates.”  Sheona White: Consultant Curator and Producer

"RECALL was one of the major hits of the Cementa26 arts festival. The excitement it generated was palpable, evident in the heartfelt and inspiring responses from audiences. It would be wonderful to see this project move forward, and be developed and exhibited in further locations.”  Sebastian Henry-Jones: Curator Cementa26

"Knowing the skill and attention to detail that you put into all your work combined with the clear excitement you demonstrated toward the whole project I was expecting something impressive, but I was still blown away by the total effect.”  Alex Wisser: Creative Director, Cementa Inc.

"Penny Simons’ incorporation of multiple weaving techniques of wood and fibre are astonishing in their creativity and innovation, and are superbly matched with Hobart Hughes equally impressive technical skills in repurposing found materials for the built structure aspects of this installation."  Ann Finegan: Educator, independent curator and arts writer. Co-founder of Cementa Contemporary Arts Festival
