About the exhibition

Out of Sight, Out of Mind is an interactive photographic ocean exhibition developed by the team at Sydney-based charity, Underwater Earth. What lies beneath the ocean’s surface is out of sight, out of mind.

How can anyone protect what they do not see, do not understand, do not love and respect. The exhibit is designed to reveal the ocean. Its magic. Its importance. The issues it is facing. Only then can we see positive action.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind is a touring interactive ocean exhibition that educates and inspires. Using art, storytelling and technology to create positive change.

Ever wondered what it would be like to sneak a peek below the ocean’s surface on the Great Barrier Reef, or to venture farther afield to the Galapagos Islands or a remote coral key in the Pacific Ocean? Imagine coming face to face with a manta ray, or a school of bumphead parrotfish amongst the underwater wreck of a ship, or exploring amongst Palau’s famous lettuce coral gardens as if you were a fish. Out of Sight, Out Of Mind is an interactive gallery event that reveals what there is to admire, love and protect about the ocean.

Underwater photographer and adventurer, Christophe Bailhache, showcases his unique panoramic images, taken during ten years of Underwater Earth expeditions. Thanks to QR codes and your mobile device, you will be transported into the panoramic images allowing you to explore each unique underwater world.

Out of Sight, Out Of Mind has been designed to reveal how curious and diverse life under the waves is; to remind us of the importance of the ocean; the issues it faces and the critical work being done to protect it.

The exhibition package allows for flexibility in the theming and number of photographic images provided given Underwater Earth has an extensive photographic portfolio of panoramic images.

There is the additional opportunity of having Underwater Earth’s custom-made underwater SVII camera system put on display. This camera system was designed not only to revolutionise scientific coral reef monitoring but also take the world virtual diving in Google Street View and was voted by Times Magazine amongst the top 100 new scientific discoveries of 2015.
