About the exhibition

The Doug Moran National Portrait Prize has the largest prize money of any art competition in Australia. It showcases the best of portraiture and is judged by eminent experts in their fields. The Moran Arts Foundation is seeking venues for touring the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize in 2019.

For the past 30 years the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize (DMNPP) has encouraged both excellence and creativity in contemporary Australian portraiture by asking artists to interpret the look and personality of a chosen sitter, either unknown or well known.

Previous winners of the prize include artists Vincent Fantauzzo, Louise Hearman, Nigel Milsom, Ben Quilty, Michael Zavros, with judges including Edmund Capon and Angus Trumble and artists Rick Amor and Lewis Miller.

The 2018 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize winner Lynn Savery titled 'Self Portrait' was announced on Thursday 1st November 2018 at Juniper Hall, an historic 1824 Georgian house in Sydney’s Paddington.
