About the exhibition

I travel back in time, to a place where something happened, to a passing moment fixed and preserved in my consciousness. I've been wondering what happened to the memory during the travel of time. How it has changed, what has been preserved and how much that has been added on or been removed. Is it for real or just an illusion? What I show is created out of that kind of incomplete consideration.

                                        Johan Willner

Boy Stories is an investigation of the childhood memory in the present just as much as it is a depiction of life in the past. Born in 1971 Willner lives and works in Sweden. He studied photography and art in Stockholm and New York, receiving an MFA from the University College of Arts, Craft and Design in Stockholm 2006 and attended the documentary photography program at International Centre of Photography in New York in 1995/96. He started out as a darkroom printer at Magnum Photos New York in the mid nineties.

Johan works with both documentary and staged photography, letting the subject or the concept lead the way for the technique. His work has been shown extensively in solo and group exhibitions in Europe and in the United States.
