About the exhibition

Learn about the lives, aspirations and stories of extraordinary Australians through our annual exhibition of objects of personal significance chosen by Australian of the Year recipients from each state and territory. The National Museum of Australia is once again partnering with the National Australia Day Council to present the Australian of the Year 2019 touring exhibition.

Every year we ask each state and territory Australian of the Year Award recipient to choose an object of personal significance to tell us something special about their lives, aspirations and experiences. These objects, the recipients’ trophies and stories behind their remarkable achievements provide the unique content of this exhibition.

Australian of the Year Awards 2019 will feature objects and inspirational stories from the following State nominees: Kurt Fearnley (NSW), Mark Sullivan (VIC), Jon Rouse (QLD), Dr Richard Harris (SA); Craig Challen (WA), Michael Long (NT) and Bernadette Black (TAS).
