About the exhibition

Perfect for venues currently planning for the time when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and audiences can be welcomed back through your doors, this National Museum of Australia exhibition celebrates the bush, the outback, the coast and the people who live there. Featuring some of the most striking photographs from the Australian Geographic archive, it will transport your visitors to some of the most rugged and remote parts of the country where they will discover the remarkable stories of ordinary Australians.

This exhibition is delivered in a fast, flexible and affordable format. Our model allows you to curate your own exhibition and is unique in its latitude. It can be small scale (up to 20 images) to fit into a smaller gallery, foyer space or town hall. Alternatively it can be scaled up to include all 63 images with all the value-adds to make this show a major event in your display space. We designed this show to suit a variety of venues, audiences, needs and interests - you select how many images and which images you want.

The exhibition hire fee ranges from $2,000 to $6,000 depending on the number of images you select for your community's own portrait of Australia and includes all panels, prints and postage.

The Australian Geographic team, including senior editors, photographers and writers are available for the exhibition launch and public program events and your exhibition will be promoted through their highly popular Australian Geographic magazine.

COVID Considerations

  • As the content of A Portrait of Australia is fabricated on demand for each venue, you will receive a freshly minted set of text panels, photographic prints and labels direct from the printer.
  • There are no interactive components in this exhibition and if any content is touched, it can be gently wiped clean, including the images.
  • The resource load is low – there are no environment requirements to meet and the planning/procurement process is short.
  • As we continue to work with some degree of uncertainty, a flexible display period can be arranged.
