About the exhibition

Each year, the Australian of the Year Awards honour an exceptional group of highly respected Australians who ignite discussion and change on issues of national importance. The National Museum then asks the Australian of the Year recipients to choose an object of personal significance to go on display. Each object not only tells us something about their lives, aspirations and experiences, they tell stories, connect with others and make us think.

The Awards offers an insight into Australian identity, reflecting the nation’s evolving relationship with the world, the role of sport in Australian culture, the impact of multiculturalism, and the special status of Australia’s Indigenous people. Be part of the national conversation led by the 2022 Australian of the Year by bringing the Australian of the Year touring exhibition to your community.
