About the exhibition

This biennial drawing prize seeks to encourage and promote innovation and excellence in Australian drawing practice.

The JADA celebrates drawing in all its splendor from hyper realism to the expressive and abstract, evoking the poetic and emotional response to the human condition and our environment. Many of the works that will be selected will question and challenge the notion of traditional drawing, while others may provide a contemporary perspective and reinvigorate those traditions.

Artists are invited to enter up to two drawings with a Gallery-appointed panel shortlisting a selection of finalists for exhibition from 2 October to 22 November 2020 at Grafton Regional Gallery.

The winner of the acquisitive prize of $35,000 sponsored by the Friends of Grafton Gallery will be announced at the official opening on Friday 2 October 2020.

The exhibition will then tour metropolitan and regional galleries promoting contemporary drawing to various audiences from January 2021 to June 2022.
