About the exhibition

The Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize has one of the largest prize money awards of any photography competition in Australia. It showcases the best of photography, judged by eminent experts in their fields. The Moran Arts Foundation is seeking venues for touring the Prize from mid 2019 to early 2020.

Established in 2007, the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize (MCPP) is a national competition that awards and promotes Australian contemporary photography and excellence in all forms of still based artwork. The MCPP invites photographers to interpret ‘Contemporary Life in Australia’ with an emphasis on Australians going about their day-to-day life.

Previous winners include Suzanne McCorkell, John Janson-Moore and Dean Sewell with judges Emeritus Curator of the State Library of NSW, Alan Davies, Cheryl Newman, photography director UK Telegraph magazine and host of Foxtel Arts, Deborah Hutton.

The MCPP comprises an Open section for adults and four school student sections. The student section is split into Primary school, Years 7-8, Years 9- 10 and Years 11-12. The high school winners and their school win prizes as do the primary school students. The 2019 Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize winner will be announced early 2019 at Juniper Hall, an historic 1824 Georgian house in Sydney’s Paddington.
