About the exhibition
11th Stencil Art Prize Prize touring September 2021 – August 2023
The Stencil Art Prize is a biennial touring exhibition of the world’s biggest, best and most daring artists that use the technique of cutting stencil layers, and painting a design.
This grassroots art form has undergone a resurgence in recent decades and is now thriving on the streets in every country around the globe. Edgy, political, cheeky and pop-culture inspired – the technique lends itself to a sense of wonder and intrigue. How was the stencil made and what does it mean?
The 11th Stencil Art Prize will feature approximately 70 artists from 25 countries and be held in Sydney in September 2021 and then go on tour to regional and metro galleries in Australia until August 2023.
Previous winners include E.L.K (Australia’s highest selling street artist), Ralf Kempken (Australia), 23rd Key (Australia), David Soukup (USA), Monstfur (Poland) and Tinku (Guatemala) and Jana & Js (Austria). The Prize began in 2009 and features an incredible selection of stencil artworks on canvases, reclaimed and found objects, surfboards, skateboards, collaged imagery, sculptural stencils, stencils that make audio noise and delicate materials such as paper.
The exhibition encompasses nearly every possible stencil making method, including hand-cut stencil arrangements, screen-printing, technologically assisted productions and collecting. Artist talks, live mural painting and stencil-making workshops are available, please contact to discuss.
